Chicago

Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States and the seat of Cook County. Based on latest unofficial census data, an estimated four hundred thousand people of Serbian descent live in the Chicago metropolitan area (also known as Chicagoland), therefore some say that Chicago is the second largest Serb-populated city in the World, right after Belgrade. The main Serb populated neighbourhoods in Chicago are: Irving Park, Norwood Park, East Side and Logan Square. Serbs preserve their culture, language, traditions and cuisine in their households, Serbian Orthodox Churches (St. Simeon Mirotochivi, St. Steven of Decani, Holy Resurrection Cathedral, etc.), Consulate General of The Republic of Serbia in Chicago, a lots of ethnic institutions, schools, institutes, associations, clubs, etc. There are many very successful Chicago Serbs in various fields: politics, science, economy, art, business, etc. Some of them run local businesses inspired by their motherlands cuisine and traditions, so it’s not hard to find Serbian-owned cafe, restaurant, bakery, or grocery store in the city. Do not miss to visit these places and experience Serbian hospitality, tasteful cuisine, traditional drinks and authentic Balkan music far away from Serbia in the “Windy City”.
